Andrew Short Arlington SX Update

The Arlington, TX edition of the 2015 Monster Energy Supercross Series marks start of the east coast swing, with softer dirt and a totally different vibe than the west coast rounds. It also marks the yearly pilmgrimmage back home for BTO/KTM pilot Andrew Short and his family (and his little trainer friend.) Shorty could feel the home state love on Valentine’s Day and had a great outing from start to finish in what is arguably the most outlandish sporting facilty in the country, Cowboy’s Stadium aka AT&T Stadium.

Andrew started practices well, enjoying the new dirt (finally!), track layout and the changing track conditions. His 7th fastest time in the first practice diluted down to an 11th fastest qualifying time after the third and final practice session.

Andrew gated well in his heat race but the doglegged start straight thwarted his efforts, and he rounded the first turn mid-pack. After the usual first lap jostling, Shorty came around the finish in 9th place. Although riding well, he could only improve his position to 7th, resulting in a trip to the semi races. Andrew’s semi race was an improvement, as he launched a holeshot and maintained that lead for the duration of the semi for the win and transfer to the main.

Andrew again started up front in the 450 main event, jockeying well during the hectic first lap, and came around in 6th. Kawasaki’s Davi Millsaps would fall 6 laps in, improving Shorty’s position in the field to 5th. Shorty came under attack by Geico Honda’s Eli Tomac but was able to maintain solid laps and Eli would make a mistake and fall after closing up the gap. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Jason Anderson would also mount a charge on Shorty’s position but Andrew was able to pull away and mantained his 5th place for the finish of the main event.

We are enjoying our first week of training at home although the weather is Arctic by our standards. Today we will attempt our first yoga session, which will be entertaining and fully humbling. We are hoping for warmer weather and look forward to Atlanta’s red clay and surely boisterous crowds. Thanks for tuning in and see you down the road!
