Shorty and Anderson Start the Season Strong!

#29 Andrew Short and #21 Jason Anderson both started the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross Season successfully as they carded a 6th and 4th place in their respective main events. This strong opening performace provides a solid base from which to battle one of the most highly competitive rider fields in recent history.

Shorty started the night off well by qualifying 7th fastest overall in the 450SX class, falling in between fellow Honda riders Barcia and Reed. Rockstar Energy/Suzuki pilot Jason Anderson qualfied 9th overall in the 250SX class. Both riders reported feeling great and ready to kick off the much anticipated racing of the season opener at A1.

Anderson got a late jump in his heat race and found himself in the back half of the field after the first turn. He made a few quick passes to come around in 10th at the end of the first lap. Jason made a few more well planned and executed passes to take 7th place in the heat to transfer to the main.

Andrew also found himself midpack after the first turn in his heat. He would ride steadily throughout the heat race, getting around the likes of Windham and Grant to finish up in 4th. This provided him a good gate pick for the 450SX main.

Anderson had a decent start to his first main event of 2013, working his way to 6th at the end of the first lap. Jason would charge hard in the opening laps to gain the 5th place that he would hold for a handful of laps. The field would start to string out and Jason made the pass on Stewart at the halfway point and maintaining this position to end the main in a strong 4th.

Andrew had a great jump on the start of the 450SX main but would get edged out on very inside of the first turn by Barcia. Andrew would end the first lap in 8th. Andrew rode consistently and gradually built up steam as the moto wore on, making a pass on Grant in the first half of the race and on Barcia, who had gone down, in the second half of the race. This put Andrew up into 6th place at the end of the main.

Coach Seiji would like to congratulate both hard working riders on thier strong season opener and wishes them the best at the second round in Pheonix!
